I love the Sand Bar. It's perfectly located on beautiful Rock Lake with plenty of outdoor seating and a great view of the lake and beach. All of the food I've had has been excellent- especially The Friday Fish Fry and Hot Wings. If you like spice, I'd suggest the Johnny Cash Ring of Fire wings. They have a rum-based Bamboozle cocktail on tap with about five kinds of rum. One is good. Two will have you buzzed. Three may knock you out.

Love this bar!! But it's Saturday Labor Day Weekend and where are all the regular bartenders!!??? Maddie, Hannah, Tony and Ashley?? Weird!!

3 years since my last review; I've been back many times since, and unfortunately, things have progressively gotten worse, specifically in terms of service and hospitality. If you're operating a place that's supposed to be fun and inviting, I'd strongly suggest hiring people that aren't surly, impatient, and generally rude... But what do I know? I guess I know what doesn't work. Bartender dude (built like a fire hydrant, scruffy beard) couldn't be less happy to be behind the bar if he tried. Doesn't matter if it's slow or busy, he seems to be put off by having to pour a drink. Waitstaff are a mixed bag; some have been tolerable, but most start their service with complaints about how busy (or slow) things are and how everyone is pissing them off. That's fun. Tap selection consists of three whole offerings. Bottled beers are heavy on the macros - gotta keep those IL tourists happy with their Bud Lights. Food is also hit or miss; some items are good, while others are simply awful. Factor in the consistently poor service with heavy attitude, mediocre food, and high prices and I don't care what type of view you offer - I won't be back. Oh - I dare anyone to ask about the wifi. You'll see them turn stone-faced/irate and will get an under-breath reply that isn't appropriate for this family-friendly platform... I don't understand what the big deal is. Here's to hoping the sand bar beaches itself.

We just finished a meal of appetizers, and are very happy with what we were served! Tony, our bartender, has made us some very tasty cocktails and Molly, our waitress, has made sure our needs were met the entire time we were here. We had wings and cheddar jalapeño curds; both were very good and ample sized for the price. We've eaten here many times and have never been unhappy with the service or food. The wait staff seems to genuinely enjoy their jobs. We always sit on the deck rail, as the sunsets from the deck are so beautiful!!

Other than the food, the service, and the clientele I really liked this place. Biked down Glacial Drumlin trail with my 2 young sons on an absolutely perfect summer day. Rock Lake was hopping, as was the park in which the Sand Bar is located. We sat out on the patio and found it the perfect place to rest, relax, and soak in the scene (2 stars for location and outdoor dining). Food was terrible, it gives bar food a bad name...or, at least a worse name. The 3 of us didn't come close to finishing our mozzarella sticks. Unheard of. It was overpriced too. Bartender was kind of annoying. I'm sorry but anytime any establishment beyond a lemonade stand accepts cash only I am immediately irritated.

I've never been super impressed with the food at the Sand Bar. It is a nice place to hang out and have a beer and appetizers. Their pies are fantastic! Try the grasshopper ice cream pie...you won't regret it. They also serve food for beach goers at their window so that's nice if you want a little snack while at Sandy Beach.

Last year we had a cheeseburger from the snack window and it was very good. This year it was terrible and nondescript. A cold plain bun and just a small beef patty with no character and cheap cheese. Should not expect much but was disappointed to see it change from one year to the next. Stick to a McDouble instead for a buck. The fries were not even salted at all. I think that the young man working there was not properly trained or just did not care.
